Contractors for Clean Water in support of Captains for Clean Water
As many of you have read, if not seen first hand, Southwest Florida is currently experiencing a crisis on our waterways. The combination of Red Tide with the influx of Cyanobacteria (Blue Green algae) from the releases of Lake Okeechobee have resulted in a significant loss of marine life. This loss includes fish of all sizes, ranging from small bait fish to Goliath Grouper and Tarpon. Endangered sea turtles, manatees, and dolphin have also died as a result of the current water conditions. A whale shark recently washed up on Sanibel Island and its death is also believed to be attributed to this current disaster. This epidemic is affecting our waters from Sarasota to Marco Island.
These poor water conditions affect us as a community. We all enjoy the coastal lifestyle and the water is a big reason why we live and raise our families here. We enjoy boating and fishing and hope all future generations are able to enjoy this as well. These poor water conditions also affect us as Contractors. Without clean water we will not have the tourism that drives our local economy. Without clean water no one will want to move here and the real estate market will be affected. Without clean water there will be no new construction projects. It is apparent that the current system of water management practices are not working and changes must be made in order to save our resources and ecosystems. This is a complex problem with no easy solution.
However, there are people working hard to provide the changes necessary to solve this issue. We are proud to support the efforts of Captains for Clean Water. This local nonprofit organization is dedicated to the clean water movement, providing our voice in Tallahassee and Washington on the issues that affect us the most. We encourage all of you as Contractors to contribute to this cause in any way possible.
If you would like to make a donation, please make out your check to Captains for Clean Water. Please send your checks to our office and we will collectively present the checks as Contractors for Clean Water at their fundraiser on August 17th.
